BRULAGE SILENCIEUX, 2022

Installation, burned plaster cast

“BRULAGE SILENCIEUX” is an installation composed of three plaster casts of fragments of women’s bodies, placed above candles that burn slowly. Through its staging, the work offers a powerful and striking representation of sexual violence.

Such violence can take many forms: it may be brutal and sudden, or, on the contrary, unfold over time in an insidious and repetitive manner. The lit candles thus become a metaphor for the slow, daily suffering endured by many victims.

The three casts, each evoking a different woman, strongly recall the scale and recurrence of violence against women. The choice of plaster as a material reinforces the symbolic force of the installation: it highlights both the physical, bodily dimension of violence and the vulnerability of the body.

As a whole, “BRULAGE SILENCIEUX” is a grave and poignant work that questions the deep traces left by sexual violence, both on the body and on the psyche.
