BODY & MATTER, 2025 -
Installation, sculptures of breast casts in plaster
The Body and Matter series is a study that explores both the relationships between materials and the dynamics of human interaction, through interventions and additions applied to plaster sculptures with various materials.
The starting point of the series is the embodiment of the body as a metaphor in plaster: a fragile, malleable surface that gains new meaning with every touch added to it. Materials such as glass, metal, plastic, or recycled objects that come into contact with these forms transcend their role as mere substances; each becomes a symbolic element pointing to different aspects of human relationships.
One of the central questions of the series is how the same material, subjected to different processes, can yield opposite outcomes. For example, glass shattered from recycled bottles takes on a sharp and dangerous form, while Murano glass, meticulously crafted, assumes a delicate and aesthetic appearance. This transformation reveals how a material’s potential is shaped into a completely different experience through force, care, or even chance.
Body and Matter invites viewers to reflect on both material and human levels: How do different materials interact with one another? What harmonies or conflicts emerge from these encounters? And ultimately, as humans, do we not create a similar field of transformation and interaction in the relationships we form with each other?
