BODY & MATTER, 2025 -
Series of sculptures of a cast plaster breast, mixed media
Body & Matter is a series of sculptural research that explores both the relationships between materials and the dynamics of human interaction through interventions and additions applied to plaster sculptures.
The starting point of this series lies in the embodiment of the body as a metaphor within plaster: a fragile and malleable surface that transforms and accumulates meaning with every contact, with every gesture brought to it. The materials that come into relation with these forms — glass, metal, plastic, and others — move beyond their simple status as matter; each becomes a symbolic element, revealing different dimensions of human relationships.
One of the central questions of this series concerns the way in which the same material, subjected to different processes, can produce opposite results. Glass, for example, made from recycled and broken bottles, takes on a sharp, almost threatening form, while Murano glass, shaped with precision and care, unfolds in a delicate and refined expression. This transformation highlights the way a material’s potential can be directed toward a radically different experience through force, care, or even chance.
Body & Matter thus invites the viewer into a reflection that is both material and human: how do different materials interact with one another? What kinds of harmonies, tensions, or conflicts emerge from their encounter? And ultimately, as human beings, do we not also construct a similar space of transformation and interaction through the relationships we weave with one another?
